Few American writers have matched William Faulkner’s grandeur of prose and depth of insight into human nature. Faulkner fearlessly engaged with the challenges of his historical moment while exploring what he called in his Nobel Prize acceptance speech “the old verities and truths of the human heart in conflict with itself.” A native of Ripley, Mississippi, Taylor Hagood holds a Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi, where he held the inaugural Frances Bell McCool Fellowship in Faulkner Studies. He is Professor of American Literature at Florida Atlantic University.
